This article describes the recent acceptance of tattoos in America. Once looked down on, tattoos have become popular and accepted in America in the past decade. Agenda Setting Theory and Cognitive Social Learning Theory are two theories that suggest the reasons why tattoos have become popular. Agenda Setting Theory proposes that the media tells the mass what is important and what events people inhabit around the world. Cognitive Social Learning Theory predicts that people will imitate behaviors of others when those models are rewarded or not punished or attacked for their behavior. We are seeing more and more people with tattoos on television, the internet, and magazines. Even in our everyday lives like in stores, schools, and our jobs. Tattoos are a way of one expressing themselves. I wanted to get a brief understanding of the psychology behind getting a tattoo.

The psychology of getting tattos is a mystery to me and I am hoping through reading your blog I will get a better understanding of the subject. I have heard from various friends that once they get a tattoo, one is never enough. They become “addicted” to getting/wanting more.tattoos

How about putting some info up about yourselves on your “About” page, so that people can get a feel for who you are and what brings you to this topic?

You’ve got a great topic here, one that a lot of people in our class, obviously, are interested in. Keep it going!

Ok so I have a tatoo that I have had put on my body when I was 19 years old. At the time is was exactly where I wanted it and what I wanted. It ment something to me, was it special, no but it represented me at that time in my life. I have to admitt I went with the “in” design of that time, the butterfly which till this day all that I tell what my tatoo is always has the same reaction “OH THAT DESIGN” as if to say, “you are not different just the blend of what the society says is the fav or the hottest thing you should be (or to have)”. I have to disagree because to me the butterfly means freedom and growth, I mean the butterfly didn’t just become a butterfly it transformed from different stages in its life time. So I don’t regreat getting a tattoo on my body although i do regreat where I have it on my body and the size.
